Here we have a breathtaking early Victorian carved Rosewood sofa c1840. As you can see the sofa has stunning colour and patina. This sofa once resided in Chequers the Prime Ministers residence and came by descent through the Hawtrey family. The carving is exquisite and of exhibition standard and being solid Rosewood is of great quality. It appears that the carver chose to use every classical example of furniture design to illuminate this sofa above others. The sofa is finished in stunning Chestnut hide and looks stunning. There are original casters to the base. We believe through talking with the Hawtrey family that the sofa is fresh to the market having never been sold since c1840. A beautiful statement piece of very comfotable practical interior design in great retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 74 inches wide 33 deep and 37 high.
