Fine Georgian Bow-fronted Large Wardrobe

19th century
Description

Here we have for sale a VERY FINE Georgian London made large size bow-fronted / serpentine fronted wardrobe. Beautiful mahogany flame veneered panels throughout with boxwood line inlays. We have just bought this back from a customer who we sold it too in 2011, one of the first pieces we sold on Selling antiques in fact.

The wardrobe breaks down into 5 sections for moving and once in place is screwed together. Centre section is in two parts, the bottom part with three long drawers with boxwood and ebony line inlay. The drawers are all OAK lined. Top section has all its original trays inside also with boxwood line inlay and also all OAK lined. The tall sections at either side have full hanging space now with later 1900's patented pull out hanging bar made by John Watts of Sheffield with patent No. 3470/09. Very nice design cornice which is in one peice which can also be screwed into place also displaying boxwood line inlay.

The whole piece is a lovely colour and is basically in very good condition. The only exception to this being the brasses which are later around 1900's replacements, looks like it would have had brass knobs originally on the base drawers and no knobs to the top, just opened with the key.

The piece is stamped throught with F. BEST MAKER 64A SOUTH AUDLEY STREET & 188 SLOAN STREET LONDON.

Also has a later ivory retailers plaque inside of S & H JEWELL 131-2 HIGH HOLBURN LONDON.

This is without doubt one of the nicest shaped wardrobes of this kind I have seen for quite some time. Also the quality of the piece is top drawer.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
