Scottish Victorian Mahogany Double Bed

19th century
Description

A handsome Victorian mahogany and upholstered double bed frame with a tall arched and padded headboard with carved s-scrolls. The footboard features large block and turned columns on bulbous feet with hidden castors and a beautifully coloured mahogany fielded panel board finished with mouldings and c-scrolls between. The inner side of the footboard is also upholstered.

In very good condition and of super quality, the show wood to the head and foot board has been repolished using traditional methods, the head board has been repadded and is ready for covering with the final fabric whilst the inner side of the footboard still has the old fabric for recovering (there are marks on the lining fabrics). There is a quite small chip to the top inner edge of the footboard and the side edges to the headboard legs have some veneer loss at the bottom (this is unlikely to be seen once the bed is dressed and has bedside furniture alongside). The side rails are not polished as these would usually be hidden.

The price shown is for the bedframe only, we have displayed it with a low spring base and standard double sized mattress. The bedside cabinets are available separately to buy, and this bed would be a good match for our recently listed Victorian mahogany breakfront wardrobe.

The sizes at the largest points are approximately:

Width - 56 ½in (143.5cm)

Length - 81 ¼in (206.5cm)

Height - 78in (198cm)

Mattress/base

Width - 54 ¾in (139cm) across the outer edges of the side rails

Length - 73 1/4in (186cm) between the head and foot boards

For moving and delivery this bed separates into four parts (headboard, footboard, two side rails).

Dealers Notes

When buying it is important appreciate antiques have long histories of daily use and as such, over time they gain minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits, signs of old woodworm, lifts and losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We describe the main flaws and those that fall outside of this bracket but cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee if you are unhappy with your purchase but cannot refund the return shipping cost. If you are not sure please do not buy without clarifying or take the view that the only way to have it as near to new as possible is to have it fully and comprehensively restored.

For delivery we use a small carrier experience in carrying antique furniture. Delivery is usually within 31 days and the carrier will make arrangements with you directly. We can provide contact details of other carriers if required.
