Large Japanese Meiji Period Bronze Tortoise Okimono

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this large and heavy quality bronze okimono of a crawling Tortoise , the creature stands in an inquisitive pose with his head raised in the air, his bulging eyes inlaid in a black Shakudo alloy , the domed shell finely detailed above his wrinkly legs and neck , the underside of the shell cleverly patinated to a shinier look as intended , the claws and underside of his feet finely detailed , a most charming and unusual Japanese Okimono for your collection .

The condition is good with only minor wear .
