Description:
Here is a stunning quality antique English Victorian rosewood three-seat couch, circa 1850, with a fantastic quality frame, which has been newly upholstered, and is in excellent condition. The couch has been upholstered in top quality structured pale satin gold brocade upholstery, interspersed with a floral pattern, finished with a fine quality matching braiding to the frame. The couch is constructed of solid rosewood and boasts a stunning quality frame with a central carved floral fretwork pediment. A moulded sweeping frame, secured by upholstered arms terminates on finely carved scroll arms above shaped supports. The couch benefits from a sprung serpentine shaped seat; the seat is firm but comfortable; you do not sink into the seat. The underside is finished with traditional hessian backing. The frieze displays a finely carved floral central cartouche. The couch is raised on pronounced tapering block legs, decorated with trailing floral carvings at the front, with plain splayed legs to the rear.
Condition Report:
This couch is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the rosewood frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The couch has been newly upholstered in top quality structured pale satin gold brocade upholstery, interspersed with a floral pattern, finished with a fine quality matching braiding to the frame. Therefore the upholstery is new and in excellent condition (it’s clean with no signs of wear and tear or damage). The seat is firmly sprung, but at the same time, is extremely comfortable. The underside is upholstered in traditional hessian.
