He became a Methodist minister and lived in many places, including Barnard Castle. After retiring he became chaplain to the RAF regiment at Catterick and moved to Crakehall where he spent the last 20 years of his life.

He exhibited at The Royal Academy, London, The Royal Scottish Academy, The Royal Institute, The Paris Salon, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Goupil Gallery, and many local galleries.
For many years he was the art critic to The Birmingham Post.
