We understand that it originated from the Brittany region of northwest France. The settle is constructed of solid walnut; with a moulded frame, decorated with two small turned finials on the top rail, with a panel of attractive small fine spindles, with a horizontal rail further below, all of which are adorned with fine turned bobbin tuned balls. Sweeping reeded scroll arms support the back and are secured to the seat with elegant ring tuned baluster supports. The settle benefits from an attractive drop in rush seat, which can be removed if necessary for cleaning. The settle comfortably seats two people. This very pretty provincial couch features the original polish and patination and therefore the colour is superb.
Condition Report:
The settle is in good condition having been wax polished. The settle boasts the original polish; and as such, there are nominal old use marks to the frame and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The seat has been newly rushed; therefore it is good condition, clean, dry and free from any damage or missing strands. The arms and back are firm; there are no missing bobbins on the back rail. The settle is solid in joint; it does not wobble and they are ready to use.
