Pair: Austrian Cold-painted Bronze Native Indians

Description

BERGMANN: A fine, large and rare pair of Austrian COLD-PAINTED BRONZES which depict native Red Indians.

Both are on the warpath: one leaning back in a defensive stance with spear and shield, the other also with shield, club and wearing a horned head-dress. Both are very realistic, life-like and with most of the original colourful paintwork intact. Both are signed twice (the back of the shield and underneath) with the 'Bergman' urn; "Geschutzt" (copyright) and both are numbered. 6.25ins (16cms) high.

***Franz Xaver BERGMANN (1861-1930) known for his detailed and colourful bronzes, became owner of the famous Viennese foundry that produced his work.
