Large Grand Tour Bronze Spinario

Description

A large Grand Tour Italian patinated bronze Spinario after Jean-Antoine Houdon, circa 1860, on a rectangular plinth base inscribed 'Musee du Capitole' and 'Houdon', in good untouched condition with a good colour.

'Spinario' or 'The Thorn-Puller' was originally recorded outside the Lateran Palace circa 1165, and is now held at the Capitoline Museum, Rome.
