Neat Size George III Mahogany Linen Press

18th century
Description

Fine quality small, neat size George III mahogany linen press obviously made by one of the top cabinet making firms of the time, possibly GILLOWS of LANCASTER. The base section with three long drawers and original bracket feet. The drawers are all mahogany lined with very nice original brass swan neck handles and original locks. The drawer bottoms are one piece of mahogany.

The top section with two panel doors with very nice detail dentil cornice above. Beautiful flame mahogany timbers used on the door panels, the doors also with astragal mouldings and inlaid flowers to the corners which are original. The inside has the original trays which are also mahogany lined with the tray fronts having a moulded edge. The top section has original lock and the original key.

The whole piece is a lovely mellow colour so not too dark as many of the early ones are.

The press comes in two pieces when moving.

Altogether a very nice example of a small linen press that would fit in any house of the highest quality.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
