Fine French Animalier Bronze of a Hound

Description

JULES GÉLIBERT (1834-1916): a charming and beautifully modelled French BRONZE FIGURE of a hound, sitting alertly, clearly giving the impression of waiting for his master. It is signed within its integral oval base and measures 7ins high.

*This is a rare bronze of the famous bloodhound belonging to Prince Napoleon, later to become Napoleon III. Named "Druid" he was adored by his owner the King, who reportedly paid an "outstanding" price for him, following his success at becoming the breed's first-ever champion.
