Fine Large Austrian Cold-painted "Vienna" Bronze

1900 - 1920
Description

FRANZ XAVER BERGMANN: a good Austrian cold-painted "Vienna" bronze of an Arab, dressed in traditional clothiers and walking with a stick in his right hand.

All original paintwork though there are some small chips to this paintwork here and there. Signed with the Bergmann seal mark ("B" within an urn) and with the word "Geschultz" (copyright) underneath. 9.5ins (24cms) high.

**Franz Xaver BERGMANN was a professional metal chaser who opened a small foundry in Vienna in 1860. His son (also Franz) inherited the business and moved to larger premises in 1900. The term "cold-painted" refers to the decoration of several layers of so-called "dust paint". This colouring did not need firing, hence the term: 'cold-painted". The know-how to mix this is now lost.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
