Highly Decorative Japanese Onlaid Mixed Metal Vase

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this highly decorative and finely detailed onlaid bronze vase , the bronze ground is a light caramel colour lending itself as a perfect backdrop to the multitude of mixed metal decoration that has been painstakingly onlaid to the surface , the main body is profusely decorated with birds, bees , butterflies and dragonflies amidst mixed metal flora and ferns ,the insects in particular are finished in fine detail using gold,silver,shakudo and shibuichi to help bring the subjects to life , the elongated neck is further decorated with a band of reddish bronze alloy , hammered and then onlaid with styalised gold and silver detailing , a very fine highly unusual Japanese work of art from the Meiji period.

The condition is lovely throughout.
