6ft William IV Mahogany Four Poster Bed

19th century
Description

A very large and impressive William IV mahogany four poster bed dating to circa 1830 and reputedly from Balbirnie House in Fife. This 6ft wide 9 1/2ft high super-king size bed features a projecting canopy above large turned foot posts with bold tulips carvings to the upper part and an arched panelled square-section to the lower posts. With a panelled footboard and mahogany panelled side rails all in beautifully figured mahogany and standing on large turned legs. There are panelled covers which should be fitted to hide the bolts at the corners of the bed (shown unfitted) and there are also wheels which can be added to the underside.

In very good condition with original finish and good patina, the the foot posts have lightened as these probably had most exposure to sunlight. It has the original box base and also a mattress covered in the same fabric (the covers and cushions are not included in the sale). It does require new upholstery and drapes, the headboard is now completely bare and there are remnants of torn fabric to the underside of the canopy and the head posts. It does have brass supports for rods at the side of the head.

The overall dimensions are approximately:

Width - 72 1/2in or 6ft 1/4in (183.5cm)

Length - 84in or 7ft (213.5cm)

Height - 114 1/4in or 9ft 6 1/4in (290cm)

In addition the cornice projects an approximate additional 5in (12.5cm) to each side

Bed height with current mattress (as shown) - 31 1/2in (80cm)

Mattress size - 72in/6ft wide x 76in long

This bed is now dismantled for transportation and will need reassembling on arrival.

We describe the main flaws and those that fall outside of this bracket but cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee if you are unhappy with your purchase but cannot refund the return shipping cost.
