C19th Italian 'Grand Tour' Souvenir Bronze Figure , After the Antique ,Of Drunken Faun .

C19th Italian 'Grand Tour' souvenir bronze figure ,after the antique ,of drunken Faun. Good large-scale bronze of the drunken Satyr or Faun ,excavated at Pompeii from the site of the House of the aristocratic Patrician or Centenary. Discovered by the pool in the Peristyle or open colonnade,at the site , and mounted upon a stone block of tufa (limestone), the original is now in the 'Museo Archeologico Nazionale', Naples, Italy.

The drunken faun is depicted in a staggering pose , a look of intoxicated concentration on his face as he attempts to fill a wine cup (deficient as in the original),from a wine-skin bladder or bag slung under his arm. A true scale copy of the magnificent Roman bronze original with a 'faux excavation' verdegris patination , mounted upon a 'stepped' block of riven and aged white marble or limestone copying the original.

Shown completely naked , the well-modelled and balanced figure, conveys the acute movement and motion of the drunken satyr, his muscular body complete with Faun's tail.

Probably produced by the reknowned 'Sommer' or 'Chiurazzi' foundries of Naples.
