C19th Italian 'Grand Tour' souvenir bronze after the antique of Dionysus ,known as "Narcissus". Exceptional quality casting and good scale bronze study of the iconic statue attributed to the foundry and workshops of Benedetto Boschetti , Rome . Raised on a typical Boschetti-type 'Levanto Rosso' and black marble plinth , the well-patinated bronze figure is an exact scale copy of the original excavated at Pompeii in 1862. Now housed in the Museo Nazionale , Naples , Italy. Boschetti's celebrated workshops at Via Condotti 74 in Rome , produced high-quality bronze and marble copies of classical antiquities, and though unmarked, both the quality of the casting and the marble plinth base ,lead to a firm attribution. Minor chips to edge of marble base.
