A Large Japanese Bronze Elephant and Tiger Group by Seiya

19th century
Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality imposing Japanese bronze group by the renowned animalier Genryusai Seiya , this hefty group depicts a magnificent Asian elephant being attacked by a pair of brave but hungry tigers , the elephant seems to have gained the upper hand over the tiger pinned beneath his front leg however the other cat has managed to climb upon the tuskers hind quarter , the group is captured in such a realistic and lifelike situation , the tigers are finished in multi coloured metals including silver stripes, the elephants hide is really good , with bronze tusks this group do not run the risk of an ivory ban and will prove a sound investment into the Japanese art market , signed to the underside in a seal signature and complete with a period carved wood display stand, a wonderful group !

Condition is superb throughout .
