Large Bronze Pheasant by Jules Moigniez

Description

JULES MOIGNIEZ (1835-1894): a splendid large BRONZE SCULPTURE of a Golden Pheasant perched on a rock and startled by a lizard.

This is a particularly detailed and impressive work by this highly regarded leading member of the French "Animalier" movement, and is illustrated (page 87) in "Animals in Bronze" by Christopher Payne, where the author quotes that "...the details on this model seems to be good on all casts" ~ and that it is a ".. rare bronze with relatively few casts made."

Signed in the cast. Dimensions: 11ins high; 12ins wide at the base; 20ins long overall. (28 x 30.5 x 51cms long)
