Description

JULES MOIGNIEZ**: a fine quality mid/late 19th century French "animalier" BRONZE of a pair of partridges.

It depicts two partridges perched on a tree stump, feeding one of the four chicks that surround them. Signed in the casting. 7ins (18cms) wide.

** Jules MOIGNIEZ (1835-1894) was an important and leading member of the French Animalier School, particularly known for his lifelike models of birds. Many consider his sculptures of birds to be the finest of his time and he won numerous awards for his work. A number are illustrated in "Animals in Bronze" by Christopher Payne.
