Norwich School Joseph Paul 1804-1887 Girl by a Cottage

A charming oil on canvas laid to board of two girl by a pond with feeding a group of ducks.

The cottage is particularly well painted and draws the eye through the picture to the two girls in the far distance.

Paul was an interesting Norwich School artist. He had to leave Norwich chased by the authorities and went into hiding. He made his way copying old masters and doing portrait work making sure he didn't sign or draw attention to his efforts.

Paul was however a talented artist and his works in his own style are more and more collected.
