Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1900s.
It has a moulded cornice above a decorative carved frieze that sits above a central door containing the original bevelled mirror and original handle. The door is flanked by two beautifully figured oak panels. The interior is in its original state, clean and still retaining its original hook fittings, but a hanging rail could be added. The base contains two oak lined drawers with the original handles and a lower shaped apron. It stands on moulded Arts & Crafts designed feet and splits into four sections aiding transportation and positioning. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a large solid oak wardrobe, constructed by a true craftsman, with simple stylish lines which many of today's new versions copy but use only oak veneer. To buy a modern day equivalent in solid oak would set you back in the region of £2k!! The oak in this case has aged to a lovely mellow golden shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
