Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1880s.
It has a beautifully carved removable pediment above a carved and moulded cornice also displaying dental moulding. The body of the wardrobe consists of a central panel, with the original bevelled mirror, flanked by wonderfully figured doors with fielded panels and unusual carved portraits, perhaps of the owners? The doors have the original copper handles and when opened reveal two later brass hanging rails. The base contains four drawers, two smaller ones to the left and two wider ones to the right. All have moulded edges and the original shaped copper handles. This magnificent wardrobe stands on a moulded plinth, with castors, has panelled sides and splits into five sections making it much more transportable than one might first think! The pitch pine is a glowing shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
