This is a superb quality antique Regency brass inlaid double scroll end upholstered mahogany and rosewood couch, circa 1810 – 1830, constructed with a naval theme to commemorate the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. At this time, England was importing the best quality mahogany from its colonies.
The frame features attractive up-swept arms, which are decorated in rope edge carvings. The rope edge carving to the arms has been constructed with a naval theme to commemorate the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The couch has a central shaped brass inlaid floral pediment along with a reeded frame at the end of each corner of the couch. There are further brass inlay rosewood panels to the frame of couch. The frame has been newly upholstered in taupe embossed satin brocade, embellished with raised duck egg blue silk square pattern. The couch features a sprung base, detachable feather swab cushion and two baluster cushions at each end. The couch is finished with taupe braiding. The settee seats 3 – 4 persons. This couch boasts a stunning original colour and patination, which can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:

This item is in excellent condition. The frame, arms and back of the settee are solid in joint. The frame has been newly upholstered in taupe embossed satin brocade, embellished with raised duck egg blue silk square pattern. There is no wear, marks or damage to the upholstery. The entire brass inlay to the frame is complete. Likewise, the braiding is in excellent condition and is firmly attached to the couch. Free of woodworm, solid in joint and ready to use.
