Superb Quality French 5 Piece Carved Walnut & Parcel-gilt Salon Suite in the Louis XVI Style

A late 19th century superb quality French 5 piece carved walnut & parcel-gilt salon/parlour suite in the Louis XVI style.

This suite comprises of a sofa, 2 armchairs and 2 single chairs.

The sofa and chairs all have an arched top rail with a superbly carved central cresting with scrolling, rose & foliage and ribbon designs.

Underneath this is both a gadrooned & dart style carving and at either end a carved ball finial with a carved recessed design immediately below.

The arms are reeded and padded with an acanthus scroll carving to the end of the arm.

These are supported by spiral, reeded balusters leading down to sprung seats.

The shaped front rail is carved & moulded and the side rails are moulded.

The top of the front legs have a recessed carved decoration leading down to turned, graduated, fluted & stop-fluted legs.

This salon suite oozes exceptional quality, the suite is finished in a traditional striped cream, green and gold fabric.

Although this has not been replaced by us it is in very good condition with just slight wear on the arm pads. This could of course be re-upholstered by the purchaser.

There are traces of old woodworm (not uncommon for walnut) but the suite is structurally sound and comfortable and is ready to go straight into a property.
