Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1800s.
Dating from around 1810 in the Georgian period this antique double wardrobe is constructed from a lovely mellow shade of mahogany and is an original version of the flat pack design! Who said the Swedes were the experts? The Georgians were using this method of construction centuries before to accommodate the travelling lifestyle of the gentry.
The interior contains a later brass hanging rail. It stands on a shaped apron with attractive vase shaped bun feet. It benefits from panelled sides and splits into a total of eight sections for ease of removal. Despite its construction it is a very stable and sturdy piece when fully constructed. The mahogany has aged to a lovely warm mellow shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
