C19th French bronze bust study of Gaius Julius Caesar by F.Bardedienne. Well-patinated bronze study of the great Roman general, statesman and Consul ( July 100 BC- 15 March 44 BC ), who played such a critical role in events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and rise of the Roman Empire. Infamously assassinated in 'The Ides of March' plot by Brutus and his fellow conspirators. The Barbedienne foundry was established in Paris in 1838 by Ferdinand Bardedienne and Achille Collas . Collas had invented a machine that could reduce copies of famous works from the museums of the world, and allowed the foundry to produce miniature copies and in many ways thus allowing the democratisation of art and making it available to many. Bears both foundry mark and 'Collas Reduction' seal stamp .A nice desk-top size study showing Caesar in studious pose .
