This is a very rare and unique antique English Edwardian metamorphic upholstered beech rail-back chaise longue day bed, circa 1901 - 1910. The frame and rail back is constructed of solid beech, which terminates in the original turned legs and ceramic mug castors with stud collars. The frame features an attractive up-swept carved left hand arm with pretty floral carvings to the arm and below; there is a reeded frame. The chaise has a straight front. There is a metal hook on the back, which unlatches and allows the chaise to open up into a large day bed. When the chaise opens into a day bed, it acts as a standard double size bed (4ft wide by 6ft long). The strong rail supports the bed on the floor when the day bed is opened up. The front fascia is mirrored in the back design. The frame is covered in red pattern damask cotton upholstery, which is in good clean condition. The chaise can seat up to 3 persons.
