Huge Japanese Bronze & Onlaid Mixed Metal Charger Meiji Period

Description

As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to be able to offer this large shaped Japanese bronze and mixed metal charger , this fine plate details fisherman struggling with their net that a bird has clearly ripped into, the various fish falling to the floor in the foreground and being placed into a basket for safe keeping , the fishing boats are in the background.

The plate has a gilt bronze shaped outer border and a further patterned inner border around geometric patterns and a wide range of flora and a butterfly , a real busy plate which shows more detail each time you look , the plate is nicely signed to the front right side.

The condition is very nice and ready to hang , i would point out there are expected areas of minor wear on the mixed metal work and it appears that the right hand fisherman may have lost part of his lower leg although it is difficult to see how ? , overall a superb piece of Japanese bronze and mixed metal craftsmanship.
