Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1800s.
It has a stepped moulded cornice above a wonderful flamed mahogany frieze over four full length doors which display striking figuring and come complete with keys and working locks. The piece stands on an inverted break fronted plinth. The body of the wardrobe comprises of three sections hidden behind the four stylish doors. Both the right and left sections contain a pull out hanging rail along with original turned hooks. These would have originally been designed for hanging wigs from but probably more useful for storing belts or ties today! The central interior has a single fixed shelf over three mahogany lined sliding linen trays. Below these can be found an arrangement of drawers, all mahogany lined and with what appear to be the original brass handles. This beautiful wardrobe has a simple but stylish design, following clean lines with wonderful, and very practical, proportions that would fit into most homes. Its' understated elegance is a refreshing change from the grandeur found in later Victorian pieces. It splits into four sections making transportation and positioning that bit easier. It has aged to a wonderful rich, warm shade of mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
