Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1800s.
It has a moulded cornice with decorative dental moulding above a deep frieze displaying boxwood string inlay. Two full length doors have a brass clash mould, striking flamed mahogany panels, brass Rococo style key escutcheons, key with working lock and faux drawer fronts all having oval brass handles. The interior contains a brass hanging rail. This lovely period piece stands on splayed bracket feet with a shaped apron and disguises a rather practical secret, it is the Georgian version of flat pack furniture! Yes, it really was built to be broken down into very practically sized sections making removal and positioning much more feasible than its 'one piece counterparts. It does have some old repairs and alterations, consistent with age and use, but nothing that detracts from its overall beauty. It has aged to a lovely warm medium shade of mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
