This nineteenth-century French Louis XV double bed uses an oak framework combined with fabric and brass elements. Cream-coloured tapestry upholstery covers the headboard and the curved footboard, decorated with pink and green floral arrangements, small urn motifs, and brass stud trim along the edges. The timber shows a warm brown colour with carved flower details along the serpentine cresting and wooden frames. Curved cabriole legs support the structure at the foot end. Measuring 216 cm wide, 149 cm deep, and 115.5 cm high, the bed includes wooden slats for mattress support. It suits a bedroom as a central sleeping piece in a French chateau interior scheme. Buyers can place it against a main wall to showcase the upholstered back and footboard in a domestic setting.

French upholstered beds from the 19th century frequently draw inspiration from Louis XV and Rococo design, featuring curved frames, serpentine crestings, cabriole legs, and decorative timber carvings surrounding upholstered headboards and footboards.

These bed frames were predominantly crafted from hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or beech. Upholstery traditionally incorporated natural linen, wool tapestry, or silk damask, fixed to the frame using brass upholstery tacks.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved joinery, mortise and tenon frame construction, natural ageing on the timber, and hand-tacked upholstery edges rather than modern staples or machine finishes.

Balance the detailed floral upholstery and carved wood with crisp, neutral linen bedding and muted wall paint colours. Pairing the bed with simple contemporary side tables prevents the scheme from feeling overly formal.

Vacuum the fabric gently using a soft brush attachment to remove surface dust without disturbing the weave. Clean the oak frame using a dedicated beeswax polish, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading and textile degradation.
