Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Deeply undercut chinar leaf carving: hand chisel work from Kashmiri workshops.
Hinged pierced base panels: traditional folding construction for colonial export furniture.
Hand-gouged tool marks on the underside: bench carpentry before modern routing.
Soft wear to the raised foliage edges: decades of light domestic use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Anglo-Indian furniture from this era combines traditional Western furniture forms, such as side tables and occasional tables, with intricate Indian hand-carving techniques. These pieces were often produced in regions like Kashmir, Punjab, or Mysore, featuring dense foliage, vine leaves, and openwork fretwork.

Dense indigenous hardwoods such as teak, rosewood, and padauk were predominantly used for these tables. These timber species allowed artisans to execute deep relief carving and intricate pierced latticework without compromising structural stability.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut joinery, subtle variations in the carved patterns, and natural age-related patination within the recessed areas. Many examples feature collapsible or hinged bases designed for easy transport.

These heavily textured accent tables provide visual contrast against clean-lined modern upholstery. Placed beside a sofa or in a quiet reading corner, the carved woodwork introduces rich architectural interest and warmth to a neutral space.

Dust should be removed regularly using a soft-bristled brush or vacuum cleaner attachment with low suction to clean deep recesses. Periodically applying a high-grade beeswax polish with a brush helps nourish the timber and protects the original patinated surface.
