1930s Vertex Revue Half Hunter Pocket Watch

1920 - 1940
Description

1930s Vertex Revue half hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a 15-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a couple of small indentations.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 14ct gold plated and it is in good condition, just a very small patch of rubbing to the front, and a small indentation and a hint of unevenness to the back of the watch. The front cover has a small central lens surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover, which opens a little further than the original 90 degrees.

Inside, the acrylic lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in lovely condition with original blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1930s:
Swiss movement stamped Revue 31 and Vertex: interwar production for the British market.
Inner case stamped Dennison Sun: English rolled-gold case maker from the 1930s.
Blued steel double-spade hour hand: designed for reading time through the closed lid.
Enamelled numerals around the front window: dark Roman lettering showing light surface wear.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

This 1930s Vertex Revue half hunter pocket watch belongs to the Art Deco style and comes in a 14ct gold plated finish with a polished golden colour. The front cover displays a central glass lens surrounded by blue enamel filled Roman numerals, while a top-wind crown and suspension loop sit on the right side. The watch measures 50 cm in diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. Inside, the signed dial holds original blued steel hands and a small sub-dial at the bottom. Place this pocket watch on a desk or display shelf within a gentleman's library setting as a functional timepiece and decorative accessory. The piece suits historical horology collections and classic tabletop arrangements.

A half hunter, or demi-hunter, pocket watch features a protective front cover with a small central glass crystal aperture, allowing the wearer to read the time using outer cover markings without opening the case.

During the 1930s, pocket watch cases were commonly constructed from solid gold, gold-filled metal, rolled gold, or sterling silver, often featuring enamel detailing around the chapter ring.

Authentic pieces generally display maker hallmarks or manufacturer stamps inside the case back, alongside branded dial typography and period-correct mechanical movements produced by Revue Thommen for Vertex.

An antique pocket watch can be worn traditionally attached to an Albert chain across a waistcoat or lapel, or presented on a dedicated watch stand as a decorative desk piece.

Mechanical timepieces require periodic servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years to clean the movement, refresh lubricants, and ensure accurate timekeeping.
