Queen Anne style furniture originated in early eighteenth-century England, characterised by refined proportions, gentle curves, and an emphasis on the natural figure of wood veneers rather than heavy carving.

These chests were predominantly constructed using walnut or burr walnut veneers applied over oak or pine carcasses, accented with brass drop handles, engraved escutcheons, and herring-bone or featherbanded inlays.

Authentic pieces generally display oak drawer linings with hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass hardware, original turned bun feet or bracket feet, and genuine age patination on the veneer surfaces.

A period walnut chest provides warm wood tones and contrast against neutral walls, functioning effectively as statement storage in a bedroom, hallway, or formal living room alongside contemporary artwork or modern lighting.

Maintain walnut veneers by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually; keep the piece away from direct sunlight and steady humidity sources to prevent veneer lifting.
