Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian industrial plan chest is constructed from solid pine timber in a warm brown colour with a visible patina of use and wear. The rectangular cabinet stands on a simple plinth base and contains nine shallow, wide drawers arranged in a vertical stack, fitted with brass flush pull handles. Each drawer features inset brass drop hardware and straight moulding details along the front edges. The chest measures 93 cm in height, 90 cm in width, and 62 cm in depth, with internal drawer dimensions of 79 cm by 56 cm by 6 cm. In a modern interior, this storage piece functions well as a practical organizational unit in a home office, studio, or hallway. The deep timber top surface provides a functional working area or a display space for decorative items, books, or lamps. The substantial proportions and clean lines integrate easily into both industrial loft settings and traditional working environments.

FAQs

An architects plan chest is a specialized cabinet constructed with wide, shallow drawers designed specifically to store large paper items flat, such as blueprints, maps, engineering drawings, and artwork.

Traditional plan chests were commonly built from durable softwoods like pine or hardwoods like oak and mahogany, often fitted with cast iron or flush brass handles to allow drawers to slide smoothly without catching.

Authentic period plan chests typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer sides, original flush-mounted brass pull handles, deep drawer runners, and natural wear or staining consistent with studio use.

In modern spaces, a plan chest serves as an effective focal point in a home office, living area, or creative studio, offering functional surface space for lamps and decor while providing storage for large prints and documents.

Solid pine chests should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and waxed periodically with clear beeswax polish to nourish the wood surface and maintain the natural patina, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
