School House Antiques has dated this Art Deco Bronze Sculpture to the 1920s.
The sculpture depicts a fox with its jaws open and ears alert, pinning the pheasant to the ground.
Cast in cold painted and gilt bronze with a highly attractive original multi-coloured patina, including gilt and copper tones to the pheasant, and mounted on an oval Portoro marble base.
A particularly striking and rare example of Lavroff’s Art Deco animalier sculpture, combining strong, stylised forms with beautifully detailed modelling and contrasting patinas.
Georges Lavroff was a Russian-born sculptor who worked in Paris during the Art Deco period and became particularly known for his animal sculptures. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants and Salon d’Automne.
The sculpture is in very good original condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with its period.
