19th-Century Scottish Highland Loch & Mountain Sunset Oil Painting, C.1880

Brief Description:

A wonderful original 19th-century oil on canvas painting depicting a majestic Scottish Highland landscape, beautifully illuminated by the warm glow of the setting sun.

Dating to the Victorian period, circa 1880, this atmospheric work portrays a magnificent mountain rising above a tranquil freshwater loch, with the surrounding hills bathed in soft golden and purple evening light.

The artist has captured the natural beauty and peaceful character of the Highlands, with delicate reflections across the water, grazing cattle in the distance and beautifully rendered trees and vegetation along the lochside.

The subtle colour palette and accomplished handling of light give the painting a wonderful sense of depth and atmosphere.

Signed in the lower-left corner and presented within its attractive gilt-moulded frame, which complements the painting beautifully.
