Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Japanese bronze casting dates back centuries, initially focused on Buddhist imagery and ritual vessels. During the Edo and Meiji periods, artisans adapted these traditional casting techniques to create highly detailed secular figures, scholars, and naturalistic subjects for domestic display and international export.

These sculptures were predominantly crafted using the lost-wax (cire perdue) casting process or sand casting methods. Artisans then applied meticulous hand-chasing to refine facial features and garment drapery, followed by chemical patination to achieve nuanced bronze tone variations.

Authentic period castings typically display substantial weight, refined hand-chiselled surface details, and natural wear to the patination around high-relief areas. Look for crisp hand-finishing on robes and hands, as well as cast or incised maker marks near the base.

A patinated metal figure serves as a grounded accent on a dark wood sideboard, library shelf, or fireplace mantel piece. Pair it with minimalist ceramics, textured linework art, or understated greenery to balance the historical weight of the metal.

Dust the figure regularly with a soft, dry natural-bristle brush or lint-free cloth. Avoid applying water, liquid detergents, or abrasive metal polishes, as these strip the original patination; a light application of microcrystalline wax can be buffed on to protect the metal finish.
