Brief Description:
An impressive statement piece, the eagle is portrayed with its enormous wings fully outstretched, its head lowered and powerful talons gripping the branch beneath.
The sculpture has been wonderfully modelled throughout, with extensive incised and cast detailing used to depict the individual feathers across the wings, body, head and tail.
Particular attention has also been given to the eagle's formidable hooked beak and talons, giving the bird a wonderfully powerful and animated appearance.
The eagle is supported upon an integral cast brass tree branch, complete with textured bark and spreading supports that allow the sculpture to stand securely while forming an attractive naturalistic base.
The brass has developed an appealing warm, aged patina, with darker tones sitting within the recessed feathering and occasional areas of natural verdigris consistent with age. This contrast particularly helps emphasise the extensive surface detail.
At approximately 62.2 cm (24½ inches) across the wings, this is a substantial decorative sculpture and considerably more imposing than the smaller brass eagle ornaments commonly encountered.
It would make a superb statement piece for a country house interior, study, library, gentleman's office, entrance hall or indeed any interior requiring a dramatic piece of decorative sculpture.
