Early Rolex Wilsdorf & Davis 9ct Gold Bracelet Wristwatch, C.1919

1900 - 1920
Description

Early Rolex Wilsdorf & Davis 9ct Gold Bracelet Wristwatch, c.1919

Early Rolex ladies' wristwatch dating to the early 20th century, circa 1919, housed in a 9ct gold case and fitted with a substantial 9ct gold expanding link bracelet.

The cream enamel dial is attractively detailed with stylised Arabic numerals, including the distinctive red 12, and blued steel hands. The hinged case opens to reveal the original manual-wind Swiss movement, signed Rolex and Swiss Made.

The inside of the case is signed Rolex, 9C, W&D for Wilsdorf & Davis, and Swiss, together with its case number. Wilsdorf & Davis was the partnership established by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis from which the Rolex company developed, making these early signed examples particularly interesting pieces from the formative period of Rolex.

The expanding bracelet is stamped 9 for 9ct gold.

Gross weight: 29.5 grams.

Original condition. The dial has age-related hairlines and discolouration. Fully hallmarked. Movement is unchecked

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Wilsdorf & Davis was founded in London in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis, initially importing high-quality movements to place in British-crafted cases before registering the brand name Rolex in 1908.

Wristwatches from this era commonly featured solid 9ct, 15ct, or 18ct gold cases paired with vitreous enamel dials, blued steel hands, and flexible gold link or ribbon straps.

Authentic pieces typically bear the W&D makers mark stamped inside the case back along with official British assay hallmarks indicating the gold purity and year of manufacture.

An antique timepiece can be showcased under a glass cloche on a dressing table, displayed on a watch stand within a curated cabinet, or mounted inside a framed shadow box.

Store the timepiece in a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from magnetic fields, wind the movement gently without forcing the crown, and avoid exposure to moisture.
