Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table fitted with drawers, typically supported on cabriole or turned legs, originating in the 18th century across Britain and North America. Designed primarily as a dressing table or side table, George II examples frequently feature solid oak construction, shaped aprons, and brass tear-drop or batwing handles.

George II lowboys are constructed primarily from native oak, featuring hand-cut dovetailed drawer joints, peg construction, and hand-planed timber surfaces. Decorative elements include shaped aprons, cast brass handles, and cabriole legs terminating in pad feet.

Authentic Georgian lowboys display hand-cut dovetails with slight irregularities, oak drawer linings showing natural timber shrinkage, and original metal fixings. Look for age-appropriate oxidisation on the timber underside and wear patterns on the drawer runners consistent with historical usage.

An antique oak lowboy functions as a functional accent piece in a hallway, living area, or bedroom. Positioning modern artwork above the piece or contrasting warm timber tones against contemporary neutral wall colours creates a balanced design aesthetic.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying clear beeswax along the grain twice per year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and fluctuating humidity levels to prevent timber movement and cracking.
