A PAIR OF JAPANESE BRONZE JARDINIERES - EARLY MEIJII PERIOD (1868-1912)

A fine pair of 19th century Japanese jardinieres cast in bronze, using the "lost wax" method, which allows for their intricate detailing. Their exteriors featuring a rich, dark russet-coloured patina and gloss developed through aging.

Each piece is decorated in slightly different high relief designs of floral and botanical motifs. Flowering prunus (plum) branches wind around their globulae bodies. Featuring flared rims and sturdy circular bases, these vessels were typically used as planters or as central decorative "censor" bowls.

Similar items were produced during the late 19th-century Victorian era in Japan for both domestic use and export to Western markets. This pair has a wonderful rich patina and they are in fine condition

Each measures 14cm across the top and 12.5cm across the base, they are 13cm high
