Description

An impressive and very well made antique marble top grill front mahogany sideboard in the classic Georgian style. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1930’s.

The quality is outstanding, this is beautifully designed and is a very useful piece of furniture. There is lots of storage space inside, this is low and wide yet not too deep and imposing. There are two fixed shelves in the central cabinet, the two side cabinets also have adjustable shelves. The beautiful green marble top has gorgeous colours and lifts off for ease of transport. There are brass grills on the outer doors sitting on brass mesh panels, the panels on the central doors have stunning flame mahogany grain patterns.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This English Regency sideboard from around 1930 is constructed from mahogany with a marble top surface, brass wire mesh grilles, and a breakfront profile. The brown timber surfaces display flame mahogany veneer panels on the central cupboard doors, complemented by a mottled green and grey marble top. Brass wire grilles form a diamond pattern across the two outer side doors, which sit alongside moulded wooden framing on the central cabinet. Standing 86 cm high, 168 cm wide, and 36 cm deep, this low and wide storage unit offers a spacious surface and internal shelving within a shallow footprint. Suitable for placement in a dining room or living space, the sideboard provides concealed storage behind its panelled and grilled doors while displaying decorative surfaces on top. The low profile prevents the cabinet from dominating a room, making it practical for modern interiors requiring surface display space alongside interior organisation. Fixed shelves sit inside the central section, and adjustable shelves occupy the side cabinets, allowing for versatile storage of tableware or household items.

FAQs

A Regency marble top sideboard is a traditional storage cabinet originating in early nineteenth-century Britain, designed for formal dining rooms to store tableware, linens, and serve food on a durable stone surface.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, combined with polished natural marble surfaces and brass or copper wire mesh grill panels on the cupboard doors.

Look for hand-cut dovetail jointing in internal drawers, original brass wire lattice mesh, natural variations and hand-tooled edges on the marble top, and authentic flame mahogany veneering techniques.

Contrast the rich dark wood and marble top by placing the sideboard against a neutral wall, pairing it with contemporary artwork above, and styling the surface with minimal modern ceramics or lighting.

Wipe marble surfaces immediately after spills using a neutral cleaner to prevent etching, while dusting wood surfaces with a soft dry cloth and applying natural beeswax sparingly to preserve the timber finish.
