Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Faux bamboo furniture became popular in France during the late nineteenth century, influenced by the Chinoiserie movement and Japonisme. Craftsmen carved hardwoods such as maple or pine to imitate the nodes and texture of real bamboo stems, blending Asian design motifs with traditional French cabinetmaking techniques.

These commodes typically feature blonde hardwoods such as birds eye maple, pine, or beech turned to simulate bamboo. They are frequently topped with a fitted slab of white or grey-veined marble and assembled using traditional dovetail joinery.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved or turned timber detailing, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, and period-accurate brass lock escutcheons. The underside of the marble top should show unpolished saw marks typical of historical stone processing.

A faux bamboo commode functions well as a focal point in entryways, bedrooms, or living spaces. Its warm wood tones pair effectively with neutral wall finishes, contemporary artwork, or modern brass table lamps.

Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent etching from acidic substances. The timber veneer should be dusted with a microfibre cloth and treated periodically with clear beeswax polish to maintain moisture and prevent splitting.
