Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian silver gilt weather station is a multi-functional instrument combining a timepiece, an aneroid barometer, and a thermometer within an ornate silver casing finished with a thin layer of gold leaf or electroplated gold, typical of late 19th-century luxury metalwork.

Late 19th-century barometers typically feature solid silver or gilt-silver cases, cast brass internal mechanisms, porcelain or enamel dials, and glass tubes containing liquid or vacuum-sealed aneroid capsules.

Authentic pieces feature full British hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the lion passant for sterling silver, a specific leopards head mark for London, a date letter representing 1890, and a makers mark.

These vertical instruments can be wall-mounted in narrow wall spaces, hallways, or home offices, acting as functional wall art alongside dark wood panelling or neutral backdrop paint tones.

Silver gilt surfaces require gentle handling; cleaning should be done using a soft, dry lint-free cloth without abrasive polishes, as harsh chemicals can wear away the delicate gilding layer over time.
