A Rare Doulton Lambeth Incised Art Pottery Jug C1870s -Stamped 'Dbc'

A rare and interesting Doulton Lambeth Jug, stamped 'DBC'.

Because 'DBC' most commonly represents The Domestic Bazaar Company Ltd (a corporate retailer operating in the early 1900s), a highly artistic, Martinware-style jug marked 'DBC' usually means one of two things:

A Late Art Nouveau Commission (c. 1900–1910): The Domestic Bazaar Company specifically requested a batch of high-end Art Nouveau or whimsical stoneware pitchers from Doulton to sell in their boutiques.

A Rare Doulton Lambeth Incised Art Pottery Jug c1870s. An Early Retailer/Artist Mark (c. 1870–1880): If the jug dates to the 1870s - which this one does(matching the era when the Martin brothers were actually at Lambeth), 'DBC' is not the retail company, but a rare private-order monogram or a lesser-known decorator's assistant stamp working under a master like George Tinworth or Frank Butler. An interesting piece, with a great incised design. There is a hairline running from the rim to the base of the neck, but it is almost invisible from the exterior. This is a most interesting example with the number'32' and some initials which I cannot make out. A raririty certainly to add to any fine collection.
