This Georgian mahogany chest of drawers displays a rich brown colour and a warm patina across its curved timber surfaces. The piece features a bowfront fascia, two short drawers positioned above three longer graduated drawers, and splayed bracket feet. Each drawer is fitted with a turned wooden knob, an individual keyhole escutcheon, and dovetail joints. The wood exhibits natural grain variations and subtle signs of age consistent with period usage. Measuring 106 cm high, 107 cm wide, and 56 cm deep, the chest provides practical storage capacity for everyday items in a bedroom, hallway, or living space. The traditional English Country House design integrates into period and transitional interiors alike, serving as a functional surface for lamps, photographs, or decorative objects while offering concealed drawer organization.

FAQs

A Georgian bow-front chest of drawers is defined by its convex curved front face, designed to soften the visual impact of the piece within a room. Popular during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these chests typically feature graduated drawers, fine wood veneers such as mahogany, and tapered or splayed bracket feet.

Georgian chests were predominantly constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood. Construction features include hand-cut dovetail joints, cockbeading around drawer edges, solid drawer bottoms, and hand-turned wooden or cast brass hardware.

Authentic Georgian chests display hand-sawn timber marks, irregular hand-cut dovetails, and period-correct drawer runners showing natural age-related wear. Look for original iron locks, hand-carved cockbeading, and a deep, natural patina developed over centuries of polish and exposure.

A Georgian mahogany chest serves as a functional focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area. Modern styling involves pairing the warm timber tones with neutral wall palettes, contemporary artwork framed above the unit, and simple ceramic or glassware accessories on top.

Preserve antique mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement, cracking, and fading of the finish.
