For Sale by Fowey River Antiques (Reserved for a buyer)
Description

This is a remarkable mint condition unrestored and almost unworn example of the Legendary manual winding Omega 285 from 1960

The only work we have carried out is to service the movement and give the case a light polish with a soft cloth.

The gold filled case is 34.5mm in diameter excluding the original crown, a full size gents. It is perfect with no signs of wear whatsoever

The case edges are sharp and crisp the watch looks like it was kept hidden away in a drawer and never worn.

The movement is the Omega calibre 285 the last of the legendary 30t2 series Omegas greatest manual winding movement and used in the Battle of Britain pilots watches. It has been freshly serviced and is currently running at plus 5 seconds per day , not bad for a 60 year old watch.

The dial is totally original and perfect it has had no restoration whatsoever.

The original leaf hands are also original in matching gold

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Wristwatches from the 1960s are known for slim case profiles, minimalist dial designs, and reliable manual-wind mechanical movements. Mid-century Swiss horology emphasized functional elegance, clean typography, and precise engineering.

Gold-filled watch cases consist of a solid layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base metal core, offering greater durability and thickness than electroplating. Dials were typically painted or silvered brass, paired with acrylic crystals and leather straps.

Authentic pieces feature correct reference numbers stamped inside the case back, movement serial numbers matching manufacture dates, properly branded crowns, and crisp dial text proportional to the calibre model.

A classic mid-century gold dress watch pairs seamlessly with modern formal attire, tailored suits, or smart-casual leather accessories, offering understated sophistication without excessive bulk.

Avoid exposure to moisture, magnetic fields, and impact. Have mechanical movements serviced by a qualified horologist every three to five years to ensure proper lubrication and accuracy.
