Antique Early Carving 17thc Carved Panel of a Cherub Riding a Dolphin Blowing a Cornucopia. Dutch C1640-60.

Description

One of the nicest early carved panels I have bought....it dates from the middle of the 17thc around C1640-60 and is carved out of oak, which has never been polished...the colour is completely natural, but the cherub and dolphin stand out from the panel, as if they have been applied afterwards....but no it is carved out of the same one piece of oak....the cherub is riding on the back of the dolphin, blowing a cornucopia ( a curved, hollow goat's / cow horn or similarly shaped receptacle)...bordered by floral swags.... the quality of the carving is excellent....and for its great age, it is in very good condition...on the reverse is some old cloth tape covering up a feint shrinkage crack applied a long time ago.
