This Edwardian silver-plated tankard dates from circa 1905 and belongs to the gentleman's library design style. The piece exhibits a bright silver colour with a polished finish over a nickel silver base. The body displays fine engraved scrollwork and foliate motifs alongside a shaped cartouche panel, beaded borders, and vertical fluting above the pedestal foot. A cast owl-form handle projects from the side with relief detailing integrated into the scroll grip. Light surface wear appears across the metal surface consistent with age and gentle handling. The tankard measures 15 cm high and 9.5 cm wide. In a modern interior, this vessel suits placement on a sideboard top to serve as a decorative display object or as a container for pens and small desk accessories in a study or library. The traditional ornamentation and figural handle provide visual interest when arranged among books or glassware.

Edwardian silver-plated drinkware, produced between 1901 and 1910, features refined metalwork that blends Victorian engraved ornamentation with classical fluting and novelty cast features such as figurative handles.

These items were crafted using electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or Britannia metal base structures, onto which a layer of fine silver was electrically deposited before hand-engraving and casting handle elements.

Authentic period pieces usually exhibit maker stamps, EPNS or EPBM trade marks, light signs of wear at friction points revealing the base metal, and era-appropriate motifs like foliate scrollwork or gadrooning.

A silver tankard can be repurposed as a desk organiser for pens, styled on a bar cart alongside glassware, or used as a compact vessel for fresh floral arrangements.

Clean using a soft non-abrasive cloth and mild silver polish specifically formulated for electroplated items, ensuring thorough drying to prevent moisture marks and tarnish accumulation.
